Decades ago, excavations revealed some stone buildings of Werla, but today at this historical site there is nothing left to see. On this pages you will discover a sketched portrait of Middle-Europe's oldest and largest medieval castle ruins near Schladen. For detailed information concerning the buildings of Werla please click on the coloured spots!

The entire construction of Werla took place in two phases, during the tenth century, under the German Emperors Henry and Otto. The decline of Werla began at the end of the eleventh century.
